So this is the year I truly became a football fan. Or at least a Longhorn football fan (is there really any other team?). It has been a fabulous season with a truly amazing team. But it came to a screeching halt when we lost one game in a bitter end to Texas Tech (that's another post entirely). To make a long story short, the way they figure out the national champion in college football is MESSED UP and completely unfair. We just watched the National Championship game (which we should have played in) and the team that kept us out of it completely lost it. The University of Oklahoma is our biggest rival and they were embarrassingly bad tonight. We beat them by 10 points back in October in a neutral field, but since they beat Tech and Tech beat us, they got to go to the National Championship. Oh, and then there's all the cheating and style points that OU goes after. Basically they'll run up the score when they're playing a team that isn't as great just to get style points rather than having great character and not embarrass the other team.
So while I'm thrilled OU lost tonight, I'm bummed that we didn't get to go. But I also really respect the character of our team and how even though it might have hurt them in the end, they played this season with integrity and honesty.
OK... even I can't believe I just wrote this post. I never in a million years thought I would be a football fan. HA!
